SVG Prep is a free, browser-based image preparation tool built for crafters who use vinyl cutting machines. It solves a specific problem: getting images ready for cutting software like Cricut Design Space and Silhouette Studio.
Most images you find online — clip art, logos, photographs — contain thousands of colors and complex gradients. Vinyl cutters need flat, separated colors where each color represents a single sheet of vinyl. SVG Prep bridges that gap by reducing colors, removing backgrounds, separating layers, and exporting in the exact formats your cutting software expects.

How It Works
100% Client-Side Processing
SVG Prep runs entirely in your web browser using JavaScript and Web Workers. When you drop an image onto the tool, it is read into your browser's memory using the HTML5 File API. Color quantization, background removal, layer separation, and export all happen on your device.
Your images are never sent to any server. There is no backend, no cloud processing, and no temporary storage. You can verify this yourself by opening your browser's Network tab — you will see zero outgoing requests containing image data.
Works Offline
Once the page has loaded, SVG Prep works without an internet connection. You can even save the HTML file and run it locally from your computer. This is possible because the tool has zero external dependencies — no CDN links, no external scripts, no web fonts.
Who Built SVG Prep & Why
SVG Prep was built by crafters, for crafters. We got tired of the existing workflow: open Photoshop or GIMP, manually reduce colors, export layers one at a time, fiddle with settings, and hope the result imported cleanly into Design Space. For a simple vinyl decal, that process could take 20 minutes.
We wanted a tool that was free (no subscriptions), private (no image uploads), fast (no waiting for server processing), and purpose-built for the vinyl cutting workflow. SVG Prep is that tool.
The tool is supported by ads displayed on the page. There are no premium tiers, no watermarks, no feature gates, and no limits on how many images you can process.
